Troop Updates - December 2015

We conducted our (hopefully) semi-annual Troop Leadership Training with the newly elected PLC members on November 14, and included time to finalize the plans for the remainder of the troop year. Below is a summary of the events that have been scheduled (or are awaiting confirmation).

December (Monthly Activity Theme is Geocaching and Geocaching Merit Badge)

  • 12/05 Fallen Heroes Wreath Placements at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove (21731 Spring Street/Hwy C)
    • 10am to noon(?), Service Hours are counted.
    • All Scouts are strongly encouraged to participate in this uniformed event.
    • We will meet near the front of the cemetery entrance, as the wreaths are scheduled to be dropped off there.
    • If you received a request to place a wreath on a specific gravesite, or plan to do so for a family member, please plan to do so as one of the final wreath placement.
  • 12/08 Troop Meeting
    • Additional Geocaching instruction, as well as geocaching search
    • Head counts and meal planning for campout (3 Scouts need to complete the shopping requirement for First Class so I’m hopeful they will attend)
  • 12/15 Troop Meeting
    • Additional Geocaching instruction, as well as geocaching search
    • Finalize meal plans
  • 12/18-20 Mukwonago Park Cabin Campout
    • Fee will be $20 per Scout.
    • We need leaders for this campout as well, so parents please let me know if you are available for the weekend.
    • We have several swimmers at the SEC Conference Relays for Saturday (at Case), you can always join us after the meet.
  • 12/22 PLC Meeting
    • SPL, ASPL, and Patrol Leaders required, Scribe desired, other positions voluntary. If Patrol Leader is not available you need to inform your Assistant PL so that they may plan to attend (and not at the last minute!).
  • 12/29 No Troop Meeting, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

January (Monthly Activity Theme is Climbing, Knots, and Pioneering)

  • 01/05 Troop Meeting
    • Troop Board and Card Games Night
    • White Elephant Gift Exchange
    • Cookie Night, bake (or buy) your favorite and bring to share!
  • 01/12 Troop Meeting, review of Climbing knots and equipment
  • 01/15 (Friday) Adventure Rock Overnight Climbing Lock-in
    • Fee is $35 per Scout plus Culver’s or Subway money.
  • 01/19 Troop Meeting, knots and/or pioneering instruction by patrol
  • 01/26 PLC Meeting
    • SPL, ASPL, and Patrol Leaders required, Scribe desired, other positions voluntary. If Patrol Leader is not available you need to inform your Assistant PL so that they may plan to attend (and not at the last minute!).

February (Monthly Activity Theme is Basic Camping and Camping Merit Badge)

  • 02/02 Troop Meeting
    • Basic Camping skills
    • Ten Essentials
    • Leave No Trace
    • Personal and Patrol Equipment
  • 02/06 Merit Badge Tech Registration Opens at 8am (TBC)
  • 02/07 Scout Sunday at Messiah Lutheran (TBC)
    • All Scouts and Families encouraged to attend
    • Troop serving Kringle after services (Service Hours counted)
  • 02/09 Troop Meeting
    • Camping Merit Badge Round Robin demonstrations by Robby, Logan, Mitch, Cameron, Eli (let me know which demo/discussion you desire, first come, first served)

      • Backpacks and Gear Transportation –
      • Camp Stoves and Meals –

    • Plans include opportunity for ice fishing or ski outing to Sunburst(?). Additional fees required for skiing.
  • 02/23 PLC Meeting

March (Monthly Theme is Advancement)

  • 03/01 Troop Meeting
    • Patrol breakouts for advancement review and updates, patrol equipment inventory
  • 03/05 Merit Badge Tech Day at Gateway Kenosha
  • 03/08 Troop Meeting
    • Patrol Leader Elections
    • Order of the Arrow Elections
  • 03/13 (Sunday) Scouting for Food Bag Drop (Solo & Ensemble Performance are on Saturday)
  • 03/15 Troop Meeting
  • 03/18-20 Troop Lock-in at Location TBD (locally)
    • Scouting for Food Bag Pickup Saturday morning
    • Spring Court of Honor and Troop Banquet Saturday evening (Families invited)
